Vince Ryan Cup - Cape Breton Playoffs
The Nova Scotia Senior Hockey League proudly introduces the Vince Ryan Cup, the new championship trophy awarded to the Cape Breton Division playoff winner, honouring the legendary John Vincent “Vince” Ryan.
A native of Donkin, Cape Breton, Vince Ryan rose from playing on ponds and outdoor rinks to become one of the Maritime region’s most prolific senior scorers. Known for his strength, agility, leadership, and competitive spirit, he led local teams to multiple championships and went on to star in both junior and senior leagues, scoring over 200 senior goals and finishing among the top scorers in Maritime Senior Hockey League history.
For over 30 years, Vince’s impact was celebrated through the Vince Ryan Memorial Hockey Tournament — one of the largest adult hockey tournaments in the world welcoming over 160 teams annually and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for scholarships benefiting students across Cape Breton.
The creation of the Vince Ryan Cup ensures his contributions to hockey and the community continue to be recognized each season, as Cape Breton teams now compete for a trophy that carries the name and spirit of one of the island’s greatest hockey builders and players.
Last week, we wrapped up the end of the inaugural season with the return of Nova Scotia hockey and we couldn’t be prouder of the players raising the level of competition right to the last whistle.
Now, it’s playoff time, get ready for the best hockey of the year! Fill the rinks and cheer for your home teams. From season standings to playoff schedules and scoring leaders, we’re breaking it all down as we head into the action.
