Vince Ryan Championship Series Set to Begin
The battle for the Vince Ryan Memorial Championship begins this weekend as the #1 seeded Cape Breton County Islanders take on the #2 seeded Cape Breton West Blackstone Knights for the Cape Breton Division crown.

The Islanders enter the championship series as the top team in the division after a dominant regular season that saw them finish with an 11-2-1 record. Their offensive firepower was unmatched, scoring 103 goals in 14 games, while allowing just 34 goals against.
Leading the Islanders’ high-powered attack was division scoring champion Logan O'Neil, who captured the scoring title with an incredible 25 goals and 44 points in just 13 games. O’Neil’s ability to create offense has made him one of the most dangerous players in the league.
The Islanders also feature the league’s Most Valuable Player, Sam Gillis, whose all-around play has been a driving force behind the team’s success. Gillis finished the season with 40 points (15 goals, 25 assists) and has consistently delivered in key moments.
From the blue line, the Islanders are anchored by Leon Denny, who was named the league’s Top Defenseman after posting 26 points in just 9 games while playing major minutes in all situations.
While the Islanders enter the series as the top seed, the Cape Breton West Blackstone Knights have proven they are a resilient and dangerous opponent. Blackstone finished the regular season with a 7-7 record, but showed their determination in the opening round of the playoffs, defeating the Glace Bay Miners in five hard-fought games to earn their place in the championship series.
The Knights also carry a bit of momentum into the matchup with the Cape Breton County Islanders. In their last two meetings during the regular season, CBW came out on top both times, winning 3–2 in each game, including one victory that required overtime. Those results should give the Knights confidence heading into the Vince Ryan Championship Series, knowing they have already proven they can go toe-to-toe with the league’s top team.
Offensively, the Knights are led by Stephen Fox, who finished the season with 20 points in just 9 games and has been a consistent offensive threat. He is supported by Matthew Raike, who recorded 14 points in 9 games, and Randon MacKinnon, who added 13 points in 10 games, giving the Knights a strong offensive core capable of generating scoring chances.
Between the pipes, the Knights will rely heavily on Kenzie MacPhail, who was recognized as the league’s Top Goaltender. MacPhail has been outstanding throughout the season and could be the key to keeping the Islanders’ explosive offense in check.
With elite individual talent on both sides and a championship on the line, the Vince Ryan Championship Series promises to deliver exciting, high-level senior hockey. The Islanders will look to cap off their dominant season with a title, while the Knights will aim to continue their playoff momentum and pull off the upset.
The stage is set for a thrilling Cape Breton Division final as the Islanders and Blackstone Knights battle for the Vince Ryan Memorial Championship and it all gets underway this Saturday March 21st at 7:30pm in Sydney.
