NSSHL Welcomes New Executive Members
The Nova Scotia Senior Hockey League continues to build strong leadership as it prepares for its next chapter. Joining President Mike Fougere on the executive team are four dedicated hockey minds who bring a wealth of experience on the ice, behind the bench, and in leadership roles.
Greg Mason
A lifelong contributor to the game, Greg Mason has worn many hats as a coach, trainer, and volunteer. With Cole Harbour Minor Hockey, he coached, managed, and later served on the board as league representative, secretary, and director of coaching. He also supported the Cole Harbour U18 Major program as a trainer and served on the Hockey Nova Scotia Risk Management Committee. Away from the rink, Greg’s professional career leading specialized teams has strengthened his focus on team cohesion, accountability, and long-term growth. Known for his organization and people-first approach, he brings a steady and collaborative presence to the NSSHL executive.
Nick Ormon
Well-known to hockey fans in the region, Nick Ormon brings both playing and coaching experience to the league. A former captain of the Halifax McDonald’s, Nick’s playing career took him to New York with the Northwood Huskies, then to the BCHL with the Chilliwack Chiefs, the AJHL with the Bonnyville Pontiacs, and finally with the Bridgewater Lumberjacks. Since retiring from playing, he has coached Major U15 and worked within the Hockey Nova Scotia High Performance program. Nick is eager to help shape a fast and competitive league this season.
Tyson Aalders
Born and raised in Halifax, Tyson Aalders has been immersed in hockey since childhood. After five years of junior hockey across the Maritimes, he turned to coaching, contributing at the U15, U18 Major, and NSJHL levels. His background in management at both youth and senior levels gives him a strong understanding of hockey operations. Professionally, Tyson is a seasoned sales and marketing leader with more than 15 years of experience in business development. Living in East Hants, where he also runs a small business, Tyson is committed to growing senior hockey in Nova Scotia. His expertise will play a key role in the NSSHL’s marketing and long-term success.
Darrell Jerrett
Another strong addition to the NSSHL executive, Darrell Jerrett brings an impressive background as both a player and coach. He grew up in Sackville Minor Hockey before joining the Halifax McDonald’s Major Midget program, then advanced to the QMJHL with the Halifax Mooseheads and Bathurst Titans, competing in both the Memorial Cup and President’s Cup. Darrell capped off his junior career by winning a national title with the Halifax Oland Exports. He later played for Dalhousie University, where he competed at CIS nationals and AUS championships, before moving on to senior hockey in Newfoundland, capturing a Herder Cup with the Clarenville Caribous. After hanging up the skates, Darrell coached five seasons with the Halifax McDonald’s U18 program, winning a league championship and making a trip to the Telus Cup. Now a Project Manager and co-owner of Darim Masonry Ltd., he resides in Middle Sackville and continues to bring his leadership and hockey expertise to the game.
Together with Mike Fougere, this diverse group of leaders will guide the NSSHL through its launch and beyond, ensuring a strong foundation for senior hockey across the province.
