Northumberland Division Announces 2025–2026 Regular Season Award Winners
With the 2025–2026 regular season officially complete, the Northumberland Division is proud to recognize this year’s award winners for their outstanding performances and contributions to their teams.
Top Defenceman – #4 Will Thompson (East Hants Penguins)
Thompson was a pillar on the Penguins’ blue line all season long. Logging heavy minutes in every situation, he led all division defencemen with 18 points and played a key role in East Hants allowing the fewest goals in the league. His consistency and reliability were instrumental in the Penguins’ first-place finish.
Top Goalie – #73 Matt Welsh (Truro Bearcats)
Welsh proved to be the backbone of the Bearcats this season. He led the league with 13 wins and 1,031:18 minutes played, nearly 200 more than the next closest goaltender. His .925 save percentage ranked first among goalies who played more than 50% of their team’s games. Adding to his impressive campaign, Welsh also scored a goalie goal on November 29th against Pictou, a rare highlight in an already remarkable season.
Most Gentlemanly Player – #18 Brandon Verge (Pictou County Shoreline Pipers)
Verge was one of the league’s most consistent and respected players this season. Finishing with 15 goals and 25 points, he combined high-level offensive production with sportsmanship, professionalism, and unwavering effort each night, making him a deserving recipient of this honour.
League Top Scorer – #91 Andrew Shewfelt (East Hants Penguins)
Shewfelt captured the division scoring title with 36 points, including 15 goals (second in the division) and a league-leading 21 assists. His 1.8 points-per-game average highlighted his consistency and offensive impact, playing a significant role in the Penguins’ dominant regular season.
The Northumberland Division congratulates all award winners on their exceptional seasons and wishes all teams continued success as the playoffs continue.
The announcement of the 2025–2026 Most Valuable Player will follow shortly.
