October 17, 2026 | Cape Breton Division

The Glace Bay Miners improved to 2–1 on the season Saturday night, earning a 6–4 victory over the Cape Breton West Blackstone Knights in a tightly contested matchup at the Miners Forum.

Branden Dauphinee scored twice for Glace Bay, while newly acquired Ryan Groom led the offensive attack with a four-point performance, recording a goal and three assists.

Cape Breton West opened the scoring with a power-play goal from Brody MacPherson, but the Miners responded with consecutive goals from Kyle Bleau and Groom to carry a 2–1 advantage into the first intermission.

The second period featured plenty of offensive action, with the teams combining for four goals. Liam Trenholm briefly pulled the Knights even before Dauphinee restored Glace Bay's lead on the power play. Olan Spears answered for Cape Breton West, but Jacob Wolodka put the Miners back in front, sending the home side into the final period with a 4–3 lead.

The Knights continued to battle in the third, as Spears netted his second goal of the evening to even the score at four. However, Alex Chenhall delivered the eventual game-winner with 7:33 remaining in regulation, before Dauphinee added an empty-net goal to secure the 6–4 victory.

Despite being outshot 50–41, Glace Bay capitalized on its opportunities and received timely scoring to secure its second win of the young season.

Spears led the way for Cape Breton West with two goals, while MacPherson contributed a goal and an assist in the losing effort.

Between the pipes, Kenzie McPhail made 35 saves in the loss for the Knights, while Cody Smith was solid for the Miners stopping 46 of 50 shots thrown his direction.

Final score: Glace Bay 6, Cape Breton West 4.
